Effect of Alpinia galanga on Mental Alertness and Sustained Attention With or Without Caffeine
Ingredient Spotlight — EnXtra® (Alpinia galanga)
The Energy That Doesn't Cost You Sleep
Every stimulant you rely on quietly bills you later — in a jittery afternoon, a restless night, a heart that won't quite settle. A 12-week human trial asked whether alertness has to come with that invoice. It doesn't have to.
You've made the calculation more times than you'd admit: take the edge now, pay for it at bedtime. The wired evening, the shallow sleep, the vague sense that your resting heart rate has crept up over the years of pushing. For a person whose performance depends on both being sharp by day and recovering by night, that trade isn't sustainable — it's a slow tax. This study is about an ingredient designed to skip the invoice.
The trial
In a randomized, placebo-controlled study, researchers gave healthy adults EnXtra® — a standardized Alpinia galanga extract — with or without caffeine, for a full 12 weeks. Crucially, they tracked long-term safety alongside benefit: heart rhythm (QT interval), blood pressure, and heart rate, plus perceived alertness and calmness, sleep quality, and daytime sleepiness.
What they found
- More alert and more calm. Alertness and calmness scores rose significantly with EnXtra® and with EnXtra® plus caffeine versus placebo (p < 0.001) — two things stimulants rarely deliver together.
- No cost to the heart. Across all groups, there were no significant changes in ECG or cardiovascular measures versus baseline over the 12 weeks.
- No cost to sleep. Sleep quality stayed undisturbed in every arm, and daytime sleepiness trended downward.
The researchers concluded that EnXtra® showed genuine mental-acuity efficacy "with no safety concerns on long-term usage."
Alert by day. Calm by nature. Undisturbed at night. That combination is the whole design brief.
Why it belongs in the system
Most energy is a loan against your evening. We chose Alpinia galanga because the human data points the other way — sustained daytime alertness that didn't disturb sleep or strain the cardiovascular system over three months. For a cognitive optimization system meant to be taken every day, long-term, "does it still hold up at week twelve" isn't a footnote. It's the test that matters most.
